Pomegranates in Egypt!
In 1999 I had the amazing privilege of touring Israel for a week, then going on a camping trip in the Sinai Peninsula with the Bedouins. We started our hike to the top of Mt. St. Catherine in a barren desert. Literally not one blade of green grass anywhere in sight.
We met a bunch of Bedouins and their camels coming downhill, and as we passed them I noticed a pomegranate tree growing in a ravine. It was loaded with fruit!
Immediately I was reminded of a favorite Bible passage:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the LORD, for he will be like a bush in the desert and will not see when prosperity comes, but will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, a land of salt without inhabitant.”
“But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit” (Jeremiah 17:5-8).
Hang in there! You might be in a period of drought, but your roots run deep, and are grounded in the eternal life that comes from the Spirit of God Himself! You WILL produce fruit in due time!
